ACSES
Advanced Civil Speed Enforcement System
Transponder-based system enforcing permanent speed limits, curves, and positive stops along Amtrak's NEC.
Advanced
Based on vigilance required, reaction window, and braking penalty severity.
menu_book System Overview
ACSES is the Positive Train Control component built specifically for high-density passenger rail along the Northeast Corridor, working hand-in-hand with ATC cab signals to enforce civil speed restrictions and interlockings.
settings How It Operates
- check_circle Reads transponders between the rails containing exact track geometry, curves, temporary speed restrictions (TSR), and interlocking boundaries.
- check_circle Calculates braking curves to ensure trains never exceed permanent civil limits or overrun red signals at interlockings (Positive Stop).
- check_circle Provides time-to-penalty and warning alerts on the digital speedometer display.
- check_circle Enforces automatic penalty stops if the engineer fails to respect the predictive braking profile.
visibility In-Cab Visual & Audio Indications
Dynamic indicator on speedometer showing civil speed limit and target braking distance.
Alerts driver 6-8 seconds before penalty brake intervention.
lightbulb Driver Tips to Avoid Penalty Brakes
- verified ACSES enforces speed before the curve starts, so you must begin slowing down well in advance.
- verified Watch your predictive speed needle: never let your current speed needle intersect the dynamic warning curve.
