ATS-SN
Automatic Train Stop (Type SN)
Standard Japanese train stop system using trackside resonant coils for warning and stop enforcement.
Intermediate
Based on vigilance required, reaction window, and braking penalty severity.
menu_book System Overview
ATS-SN (Automatic Train Stop - SN) is one of the most widespread safety systems across conventional Japanese railway lines, prominently featured in Train Sim World on the Tadami Line. It utilizes resonant frequency track coils situated ahead of signals to transmit status information to the cab receiver.
settings How It Operates
- check_circle Trackside resonant balises transmit frequency signals (typically 105 kHz for clear, 130 kHz for warning/stop) to the locomotive receiver.
- check_circle Upon encountering a caution, reduced speed, or stop signal, an audible chime or bell sounds continuously in the cab.
- check_circle The driver must press the Acknowledge button within 5 seconds and initiate appropriate service braking.
- check_circle If the driver fails to acknowledge within 5 seconds or passes an absolute stop signal, full emergency braking is immediately enforced.
- check_circle After acknowledging, the chime is silenced, but a warning lamp remains illuminated on the control desk until the restrictive signal is cleared.
visibility In-Cab Visual & Audio Indications
A continuous chime or repeating bell sounds when passing a restrictive balise.
A red or amber indicator lamp illuminates on the driver desk when an acknowledgment is pending.
A rapid buzzer sounds during penalty brake enforcement.
lightbulb Driver Tips to Avoid Penalty Brakes
- verified Keep your finger close to the Q key whenever approaching distant signals (caution aspects).
- verified Always begin braking before acknowledging; acknowledging alone does not prevent overspeed if you enter a restricted section too fast.
- verified If emergency brakes trigger, bring the master controller to zero/idle, wait for a full stop, press ATS Reset, and release brakes.
