TVM 430
Transmission Voie-Machine
Continuous high-speed in-cab signaling used on French LGV lines for TGV running up to 320 km/h.

Based on vigilance required, reaction window, and braking penalty severity.
menu_book System Overview
TVM 430 is the legendary signaling system powering France's high-speed LGV network (Lignes à Grande Vitesse). Because trackside signals are impossible for drivers to read at 300+ km/h, the entire signaling block system is transmitted continuously through the rails into the cab display.
settings How It Operates
- check_circle The railway is divided into electrical audio-frequency track blocks approximately 1,500m in length.
- check_circle The cab indicator presents the target entry speed for the NEXT block (e.g., 300, 270, 230, 170, 080, or 000 for stop).
- check_circle Flashing numbers signal that an upcoming block requires decelerating to that speed.
- check_circle Solid numbers indicate permitted running speed within the current block.
- check_circle Exceeding the allowed speed curve causes automatic emergency braking within seconds.
visibility In-Cab Visual & Audio Indications
High-visibility square illuminated numbers: Green 320/300, White 270/230, Flashing Yellow 170/080, Red 000.
Sounds whenever a restrictive aspect step-down is received.
lightbulb Driver Tips to Avoid Penalty Brakes
- verified When a flashing aspect appears (e.g. flashing 230), immediately apply service braking to reach that speed before entering the next block.
- verified Familiarize yourself with the LGV transition boards (CAB / FIN DE CAB) when entering and exiting high-speed lines.
